Luc A. Michel, MD, FACS, FCCP, FEBS is attending surgeon at the University Hospital of Mont-Godinne affiliated with the Catholic University of Louvain – Medical School, Belgium.
After obtaining his Surgical Board in 1977, he got further postdoctoral training as a Chief Resident associate at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN in 1978 and at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston MA in 1979.
In 1980 he was promoted Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
He created the Service of General Surgery at the new University Hospital of Mont-Godinne, Belgium in 1981. His main surgical interests have been Endocrine Surgery, Blunt abdominal trauma, Surgical Oncology.
He is full professor at the Catholic University of Louvain – Medical School.
Clinical and basic research projects have been conducted over the past 30 years thanks to cross fertilisation with other surgeons and physicians, which have led to numerous publications in high ranking scientific journals. All of this is summarized on this website.

Luc Michel is one of the founding members of the European Society of Surgery (ESS) created in 1996. He is member of the Belgian National Council of Physicians and its delegate to the Appeal Court.
Since 1998, he is appointed each year as an expert evaluator by the European Research Council for the selection of Research Projects to be financed by the European Commission (FP 5-6-7).
Luc Michel was President of the Royal Belgian Society of Surgery (RBSS) in 2010.
